The bead itself is a glass bead where the surface is coated with genuine sterling silver. Unlike Galvanized beads, where the metal coating is thinner, Plated beads are coated with a genuine precious metal. This gives the bead a deeper, more authentic metallic sheen than ordinary metallic finishes. The most popular variant is Miyuki's "Bright Sterling" (code 961), which has a high, glossy quality.

Visually, you get a beautiful, clear silver look with a deeper shine than other silver-colored Miyuki beads. The light reflects almost like in genuine metal jewelry, and the beads work fantastically as an accent in designs where you want an authentic silver expression – without investing in genuine silver beads.

  • Durability: Requires care – the silver plating can wear from friction and skin contact, but is more durable than ordinary Galvanized
  • Suitable for: Earrings, bead embroidery, decorative projects, and party jewelry where the beads aren't exposed to constant friction. Also used as accent beads in combination with other, more robust finish types.
  • Care: Avoid perfume, sweat, and chemicals. Like genuine silver, the plating can tarnish over time – store the beads dry and dark for the best durability.
