April's News at Uniq Perler: TOHO, Long-Lasting Silver, Preciosa MAXIMA and Banko

TOHO Seed Beads have landed in the shop

One of the biggest pieces of news is that, for the first time, we have become a retailer of the popular TOHO Seed Beads. TOHO is a Japanese brand that, like Miyuki, focuses on high quality and razor-sharp measurements, where the beads are quality-checked throughout the entire production process so they become as uniform as possible.

This also means that you actually get a bit more for your money with TOHO – without compromising on quality.

TOHO and Miyuki are, of course, not quite the same. There is a small size difference, especially around the hole size, which makes the beads stand out from one another. It's worth keeping in mind if you combine them in the same project.

Larger Selection of Long-Lasting Silver-Plated Jewelry Findings

Another novelty is the expansion of our range of long-lasting silver-plated jewelry findings. This April, you've been able to see a significantly larger selection, and this is a trend we intend to continue – especially at a time when precious metal prices are as high as they are.

The long-lasting silver plating is a really great alternative: You get the beautiful silver color from 925 silver, plated onto a base typically made of brass or steel. A beautiful solution that lasts a long time, without the big price jump.

Preciosa MAXIMA crystal stones

We are also excited to present our newest addition: Preciosa MAXIMA crystal stones. The stones are manufactured by the Czech company Preciosa and are a popular alternative to genuine crystals and Swarovski crystals.

MAXIMA stones are known for their exceptional brilliance, which is due to the precise faceting. Thanks to a unique manufacturing process, they are also remarkably durable. They can be used in countless ways – from jewelry such as rings and earrings to costumes, clothing, and much more.

How to clean your jewelry

Sådan gør du dine smykker rene - Uniq Perler

Andreas Bruhn

Do you sometimes think about how to maintain your jewelry?

We have made a guide for you with our best advice when it comes to cleaning jewellery.
If you are thinking of cleaning your beautiful jewellery, take a look here. We have the guide ready.

Cleaning of gold and diamond jewellery:

If you don't already know, gold is a precious metal that is considered to be quite insensitive. And that's good, because it means that cleaning is easy and manageable.

Lucky for us jewelry lovers, we can find the things at home we need to clean the gold with.

You need 3 things:
1) Find a bowl
2) Washing-up liquid (1-3 drops is plenty)
3) Hot water (Not boiling)
4) Leave it for 30 min.

Pick up the jewelry and find a toothbrush. Then brush the jewelery until your sharp eyes can see no more dirt.

(Pssst, to the women behind the screen; It's probably best that you clean the jewelry, for the best result. It's been seen before that men can stand in front of a pile of dirt and still think it's clinically clean :-D. Joke to the side)
Finally, you can dry the jewelry with a clean cloth and BOOM, now the jewelry is clean again.

Matte gold jewellery:
If you have dull gold jewelery and want to bring out its shine again, we recommend the old-fashioned method with a polishing cloth and knuckle grease. Today, most goldsmiths use impregnated polishing cloths, which are gentle on the jewelry, while also bringing out the shine again.

Important:
You can give the jewelery a quick boil if the dirt is more stubborn. However, jewelery with pearls, delicate stones and gluing must not be cleaned with this method. Instead, we recommend using warm water and a toothbrush to clean jewelry made with pearls and stones.

Cleaning silver jewellery:

Now we just turn up the difficulty here and do exactly the same as we did when we had to clean our gold jewelry.
Just like gold, silver is a precious metal. HALLELUJAH, it means easy and manageable cleaning again! :-D
Once again, the things we need to clean the jewelery can be found at home.
You need 3 things;

1) Find a bowl
2) Washing-up liquid (1-3 drops is plenty)
3) Hot water (Not boiling)
4) Leave it for 5-10 min.

Pick up the jewelry and find a toothbrush. Brush the jewelry until your sharp eyes can see no more evil. Finally, you can dry the jewelery with a clean cloth and boom, now the jewelery is clean again.

Oxidized silver:
If the silver is oxidized, we have to use a slightly more scratchy method to get the jewelery clean.

1) Find a pot
2) A piece of tinfoil
3) 1/2 teaspoon salt and appropriate amount of water.

Place the jewelery in the pan together with the tin foil. Then pour the water in so that it covers everything.
Let it soak for 10 min. until the silver paper has turned dark. Now your jewelery should be sparkling clean again :-)

Important:
You can give the jewelery a quick boil if the dirt is more stubborn. (However, without the tin foil and salt)
Jewelery with pearls, delicate stones and gluing must not be cleaned with this method. The same applies if the jewelery is gold-plated or silver-plated.
Instead, we recommend using warm water and a toothbrush to clean jewelry made with pearls and stones.

Cleaning of other jewelery (metals):

Just like the previous 2 metals, the procedure is the same for brass, copper and metal jewelry.
You need 3 things:

1) Find a bowl
2) Washing-up liquid (1-3 drops is plenty)
3) Hot water (Not boiling)
4) Leave it for 5-10 min.

Then you find the toothbrush to remove any dirt that requires a little more to get off.
Finally, you polish the jewelery with a clean cloth so that it is free of soap residue and other dirt. If soap residue still remains, it will take some of the shine off the piece. Therefore, we recommend that you are thorough when polishing the jewelry!

Oxidized brass, copper and metal jewellery:
If the above does not work on your jewellery, it is because the jewelery is most likely oxidized. It requires great protection if we are to get rid of the oxidation.
You will need:

1) Find a bowl.
2) Pour 1/2 liter of water into the bowl.
3) Washing-up liquid (1-3 drops is plenty)
3) 1 tbsp. citric acid.
4) Let it all dissolve in the water.

When it has dissolved, you put the jewelery in and leave it in the solution for 1 hour. Then you brush off the jewelery with a toothbrush to remove the last dirt. Finally, the jewelery is polished with a clean cloth so that it can once again shine and look beautiful :-)

Important:
Jewelery with pearls, delicate stones and gluing must not be cleaned with this method. The same applies if the jewelery is gold-plated or silver-plated.
Instead, we recommend using warm water and a toothbrush to clean jewelry made with pearls and stones.

.. and if the jewelery really needs a loving hand (only gold and silver):

Here we have a nice simple method to clean the jewelry that needs extra cleaning. It could be jewelery that has been sitting in a drawer for a long time and has collected a lot of dirt.

You will need:

1) Silver paper - Tear off a piece and place it in the bowl with the shiny side up.
2) Pour in boiling water and 1-3 drops of washing-up liquid.
3) Put the jewelery in the bowl.
4) Leave the jewelry until you can see that the jewelry is clean again.

Now we pour a little cold water in, so that we don't burn our fingers when the jewelery has to be picked up. Finally, we just need to dry the jewelery and polish it of any soap residue, so that the jewelery is shiny again!

Important:
Jewelery with pearls, delicate stones and gluing must not be cleaned with this method. The same applies if the jewelery is gold-plated or silver-plated.
Instead, we recommend using warm water and a toothbrush to clean jewelry made with pearls and stones.

Thanks for reading along! - We wish you a very good day here at Uniq Perler :-)
