  • Brief about Amethyst

Amethyst is in many ways an indescribable and truly unique semi-precious stone. Besides its obvious aesthetic qualities, it is also a stone that offers much more. It is said, among other things, to have some healing properties that can contribute to a better everyday life. Additionally, the amethyst can give you the necessary strength so you can gather your mind and achieve peace and balance.

Amethyst is a variant of quartz and is related to, among others, these three:

    Agate | Citrine | Opal

How can an Amethyst stone be used?

Besides its extraordinary aesthetic appearance, the amethyst also has some other spiritual meanings and properties.

Amethyst jewelry has since ancient times been regarded as some of the most exclusive and beautiful jewelry one could wear.

That has not changed much since then. Today, amethyst jewelry is still sold on a large scale, and one of the reasons is that the amethyst stone, despite its beautiful appearance, can be obtained at affordable prices. For example, you can easily find amethyst rings, necklaces, and bracelets in jewelry stores around the country.
But besides a beautiful amethyst stone being used in jewelry, they are also incredibly popular in our homes.

Maybe you have heard of amethyst geodes? These are the amethyst clusters excavated from amethyst caves around the world. They are truly incredible and unlike anything else, and among other reasons, that is why they are so popular in our homes.

Another way amethyst stones are also used is by carrying them. Here it is not in the form of jewelry, but in the form of the semi-precious stone itself. Today, more people carry amethyst in their pocket or bag to continuously benefit from the amethyst's good properties.

Amethyst originates from quartz

Amethyst is actually a variety of the gemstone quartz, just like many other types of semi-precious stones. Among these are the popular quartz varieties such as agate, citrine, opal, white quartz, and rose quartz.

What can Amethyst do for you?

If you struggle with a flood of thoughts, worries, and general restlessness in body and mind, then amethyst is probably a stone that can help you find your inner calm again. It has a uplifting effect that can help guide you on days when body and mind feel especially heavy.

It is said that amethyst stones have a positive effect on our immune system, making us more resistant to illnesses. Additionally, by placing semi-precious stones on the third eye, one can experience a healing effect on migraines and poor sleep. If you are looking for spiritual properties, you will find that the stone enhances your intuition while reducing your exposure to incoming negative energies. On an emotional level, the amethyst stone is known to contribute to a calm mind, balanced emotions, and courage. These three qualities collectively make decision-making feel easy, balanced, and well-considered.

How is the value of the Amethyst determined?

The value of the Amethyst has traditionally been based on its purple color. The deeper the purple color, the more valuable the semi-precious stone is. Conversely, the paler the purple shade, the less valuable the stone is.

Today, a grade system has been created to help make it more transparent for people to know whether they have a high-quality amethyst stone or a less valuable stone.

The system is built on four main grades, which are as follows: Siberian, Uruguayan, Bahain, and Rose of France.

The Myth of the Purple Gemstone

There is an ancient Greek myth about the origin of the purple semi-precious stone Amethyst. Dionysus was the god of ecstasy and wine in Greek mythology, and one day, like many other days, he had had a little too much wine. For unknown reasons, the young woman Amethyst felt his divine wrath. When Amethyst, in despair, prayed to the goddess Diana for help, something happened that made Dionysus realize his terrible actions.

Amethyst was transformed into a beautiful white shining quartz, which immediately made Dionysus regret his deeds. He shed some tears that fell into his cup of red wine. In frustration with himself, he spilled his red wine over the beautiful quartz stone, which subsequently was transformed into what is today known as amethyst.

How to keep your Amethyst stones beautiful

The beautiful color of amethyst can fade over time and lose its lovely purple hue. If you want to preserve the color of your amethyst stones, you should make sure not to expose the stone to things like cleaning agents, hairspray, and sunlight.

If you want to clean your gemstones, the best and gentlest way to do it is by grabbing a toothbrush and mixing a mild soap with warm water. Then gently scrub your gemstones until you achieve the desired result.
