There is an ancient Greek myth about the origin of the purple semi-precious stone Amethyst. Dionysus was the god of ecstasy and wine in Greek mythology, and one day, like many other days, he had had a little too much wine. For unknown reasons, the young woman Amethyst felt his divine wrath. When Amethyst, in despair, prayed to the goddess Diana for help, something happened that made Dionysus realize his terrible actions.
