Use thin, precise needles

The needle is your most important tool. It must not only be able to pass through the bead's hole – it often has to do so along with several layers of thread without getting stuck and splintering the glass.

For TOHO 11/0 beads, it is recommended to use specific "beading needles" in size 10, 11, or 12. Quality brands such as Japanese Tulip needles or BeadSmith Speedle needles are recommended. They are able to bend and adapt to tight passages without breaking, and their eye stays intact even under pressure from the thread.

For the very small TOHO 15/0 beads, where the hole diameter in some cases approaches 0.5 mm, it is important to use an ultra-thin needle, typically in size 12, 13, or down to size 15.
